Since 1882, St. John Lutheran Church has been a place for members of the Greater Nanticoke area to come together and worship as part of a strong, loving community. Our worship expresses the unity of the people of God and their continuity with Christians across the ages. In the liturgical tradition are the gestures, songs, and words by which Christians have identified themselves and each other.
We’re always happy to see you and warmly welcome visitors.

About

OUR CHURCH
When you are sitting in a pew at our church you become a full participant in our liturgy. Worship is the work of the people, and at St. John's Lutheran Church, we understand that our worship is a holy work we create with God and with each other.
Our services are aimed to engage you in an experience that will stay with you for a long time. It is not just our worship, but it is our unique community that makes us worth the visit and for many, it is what calls them to stay. We have remained close with our neighborhood through many changes over the years since our founding in 1882. We hear our call to remain in this place and always serve God's people. Get to know us.
We would like to get to know you!

Meet Our Pastor- The Reverend Megan Shaffer

Hello and greetings in the name of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; I am excited to serve the Nanticoke area as Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church. I have my Masters of Divinity from Luther House of Study (Kairos University) and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Misericordia University. In addition to my theological education, I bring a wealth of experience in managing local municipal government non-profit grant writing and owning a small business.
David and I have five children aged twelve to twenty. Since my time at Misericordia, I have been actively doing ministry in various forms for the last twenty years. I am passionate about disciple-making, teaching, caring for our congregation, and liturgists. I am discerning a Doctor of Ministry in Liturgical Study.
In my spare time, I love to engage in fiber arts. I spin my yarn, knit, crochet, and weave during the colder months, often creating gifts for others. I also enjoy quilting. When the weather is warmer, you can find me outside, hiking and kayaking along Fishing Creek, the Susquehanna, or the Schuylkill River. I also have a passion for gardening and taking care of my koi pond.
I am filled with excitement and anticipation for the journey ahead, eager to see where the Lord calls us to serve together. I look forward to meeting all of you in worship.

Help with our Gofundme for Bell restoration

The bells of St John's arrived in Nanticoke Pennsylvania by train in 1899, and were transported to the church by horse drawn wagon. The Bells were cast that same year by C. S. Bell Foundry in Hillsboro, Ohio and have been ringing out ever since. The health, integrity of these bells are in need of maintenance. The cast bells of many churches of Nanticoke Pennsylvania rang out to the community with the Angelus Prayer call 3 times daily. Sadly, out of 8 churches that did so St John's is currently one of two remaining, and the only church to do so by hand. We are a small congregation and do not wish our tower to fall silent to tradition and the beauty of hearing the bells echo off the mountains. Your thoughtful gift and generosity are appreciated. Please Help Keep Saint John's Bells Ringing!
